Battlefield 5 pre-orders below EA's expectations?

Allegedly the "Battlefield V" pre-order figures are below Electronic Arts' expectations. But it's not as bad as at "Titanfall 2".

Battlefield 5

Cowen analysts recently described the pre-order figures for "Battlefield V" as weak. They fear that the title between "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4" and "Red Dead Redemption 2", both of which have better figures, could sell worse. According to a recent insider report at VentureBeat, pre-orders are also below Electronic Arts' internal expectations.

Nevertheless, it is important to put things in perspective. The pre-orders are lower than expected, but they are still better than some other EA disappointments like "Titanfall 2". Patrick Söderlund's departure should also have nothing to do with "Battlefield V".

So things aren't quite as dramatic, even though EA has prepared some kind of emergency plan, "Battlefield V" shouldn't start as well. DICE has a lot of post-launch content in development, all of which will be free, including the Battle Royale mode. This is to fuel sales and player numbers.

According to the report, DICE is working on a big surprise for "Battlefield" fans. Depending on how "Battlefield V" performs, this surprise will be released either as a standalone product or as a free DLC. But to make it clear, all this is just a rumor and EA did not comment on it. "Battlefield V" will be released on October 19, 2018 for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and is already able to be bought at retailers. For those, that are interested in what happened to Titanfall 2:

The shooter Titanfall 2 was released on October 28, 2016. Electronic Arts expected sales in the range between 9 and 10 million copies in the first year. However, the company later had to admit that the sales figures could not meet expectations.

Analysts cited Titanfall 2 between shooting giants Battlefield 1 (October 21, 2016) and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (November 4, 2016) as the reason for this. Even the developer says in retrospect: Titanfall 2 should have sold better, but there were probably too many high-caliber titles in the same release period or too aggressive a pricing policy.

Is Battlefield 5 threatening Titanfall 2? The Call-of-Duty series sells excellently every year, many fans are eagerly waiting to get the new Black Ops 4 part. And Red Dead Redemption 2 will probably hit like a bomb, considering how successful GTA 5 is and how many players are waiting for a new rockstar game and another part of the Red Dead series.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 aims to breathe new life into the genre with a focus on multiplayer and an interesting battle-royal mode called "Blackout". If you want Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 cheap, you can get it right at GameGator aswell!

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a special status anyway, as it is the first rock star game since GTA 5 in 2013.

A new battlefield looks like the fifth wheel of the car. Because it doesn't seem to be able to offer that much new.
